The Norwegian Symbolist painter Edvard Munch (1863-1944) is a well known figure in the world of fine art. An important forerunner of expressionism, his vivid interpretations of the deep-rooted feelings of life, death, love, angst and insanity seem as painfully real today as they did 100 years ago. As well as examining his own tormented soul, Munch also attempted to explore womens different emotional and psychological states in various stages of life.
Inspired by these paintings, we have for our fifth issue invited selected artists and photographers to interpret the female figures in the art of Edvard Munch. The result is a visual journey through the female psyche, as well as a modern day tribute to one of the finest artists of the 20th century.
We are proud to announce that the exhibition this time will take place as part of the project ÖÖ: Was it a Dream?; a collaborative project showcasing work by young avant-garde creatives from six Nordic countries. The exhibition will be up from 14 until 24 September at 94 Berwick Street in Soho, and the official launch party for A Dolls House fanzine #5: The Munch Issue will take place on Wednesday 15 September from 18.00.Contributing artists in this issue include:
